How to Pin Files on Chromebook?

Published in Chromebook 2 mins read

You can't directly pin files on a Chromebook like you might on a Windows PC. However, you can achieve a similar effect by using bookmarks or creating shortcuts to your files. Here's how:

Using Bookmarks:

  1. Open the Files app: Click the "Files" icon in the taskbar.
  2. Locate the file you want to pin: Navigate to the folder containing your file.
  3. Right-click the file: A menu will appear.
  4. Select "Copy link to file": This will copy the file's web address to your clipboard.
  5. Open your browser: Chrome is the default browser on Chromebooks.
  6. Create a new bookmark: Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the browser window, then select "Bookmarks > Add page..."
  7. Paste the link into the "URL" field: You can also add a custom name to the bookmark for easy identification.
  8. Click "Save": The bookmark will be saved in your bookmarks bar or in the "Other bookmarks" folder.

Creating Shortcuts:

  1. Open the Files app: Click the "Files" icon in the taskbar.
  2. Locate the file you want to shortcut: Navigate to the folder containing your file.
  3. Right-click the file: A menu will appear.
  4. Select "Create Shortcut": This will create a shortcut to the file in the same folder.
  5. Drag the shortcut to your desktop: This will make the shortcut easily accessible from your desktop.

These methods allow you to quickly access your most important files without having to navigate through folders every time. You can also organize your shortcuts into folders on your desktop for better management.
