What does a mature disciple look like?

Published in Christian Discipleship 2 mins read

A mature disciple of Jesus Christ reflects the character of their Lord in their daily life. They are not perfect, but they are actively seeking to grow in their faith and live out their beliefs.

Here are some characteristics of a mature disciple:

  • Deeply Rooted in Scripture: They have a strong foundation in the Bible and regularly spend time in prayer and study. They seek to understand God's Word and apply it to their lives.
  • Fruitful in Love: They demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – in their relationships with others.
  • Walking in Humility: They recognize their own limitations and are willing to learn from others. They are not afraid to admit when they are wrong and are quick to forgive.
  • Bearing the Fruit of Discipleship: They actively participate in the work of the church, serving others and sharing their faith with others. They are committed to making disciples and growing the kingdom of God.
  • Living a life of Service: They are willing to give of their time, talents, and resources to help others in need. They are motivated by compassion and a desire to see others grow in their relationship with Christ.
  • Persevering Through Trials: They understand that life is not always easy and that they will face challenges along the way. They are resilient and draw strength from their faith in God.

These are just a few of the many qualities that mark a mature disciple. They are not meant to be a checklist, but rather a guide to help us understand the journey of spiritual growth.
