Published in Canvas 2 mins read

You can easily link a file to a page in Canvas by following these steps:

1. Access the Canvas Page

  • Go to the course where you want to link the file.
  • Click on the Pages tab in the course navigation menu.
  • Select the page you want to edit.

2. Edit the Page Content

  • Click on the Edit button in the upper right corner of the page.
  • Place your cursor where you want to insert the file link.

3. Insert the File Link

  • Click on the "Insert/Edit Link" icon in the toolbar (it looks like a chain link).
  • In the pop-up window, select "File" from the "Link Type" dropdown menu.
  • Choose the file you want to link from the "Choose a File" section.
  • Optionally, you can add a "Link Text" to make it clear what the link will open.
  • Click "Insert" to add the link to your page.

4. Save the Page

  • Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Now, the file will be linked on your Canvas page, and students can easily access it by clicking on the link.

Example:

Let's say you want to link a PDF file named "Syllabus.pdf" to your Canvas course syllabus page. You would follow the steps above, and in the "Choose a File" section, you would select the "Syllabus.pdf" file. You could then set the "Link Text" to "Download Syllabus" so students know what to expect when they click on the link.
