What is the color of fly blood?

Published in Biology 1 min read

The blood of a fly is yellowish in color.

While many animals have red blood due to the presence of hemoglobin, flies, like many insects, have a different type of respiratory pigment called hemocyanin that gives their blood a yellowish hue.

Hemocyanin binds to oxygen in the blood, but instead of using iron like hemoglobin, it uses copper, which gives the blood its characteristic yellow color.
