What happened to Shakespeare's daughters?

Published in Biography 1 min read

Shakespeare had three children: Susanna, Judith, and Hamnet. Sadly, Hamnet died at the age of 11 in 1596.

Susanna, Shakespeare's eldest daughter, married John Hall, a physician, in 1607. They had one daughter, Elizabeth, who married Thomas Nash in 1626. Unfortunately, Elizabeth never had children, which meant there were no direct descendants of Shakespeare from Susanna. Susanna died in 1649 and is buried next to her parents in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Judith, Shakespeare's younger daughter, married Thomas Quiney in 1616. They had three children: Shakespeare, Richard, and Thomas. Sadly, Shakespeare Quiney died in infancy in 1617. Judith outlived her husband and died in 1662, leaving no surviving descendants.

Therefore, although Shakespeare had three children, none of them had children who survived to adulthood. As a result, there are no direct descendants of Shakespeare alive today.
