King Solomon, the third king of Israel, is famously known for having 700 wives and 300 concubines according to the Bible.
The Bible explicitly mentions this number in 1 Kings 11:3: "He [Solomon] had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart."
While not directly mentioned in the Bible, King Solomon's father, King David, had 500 concubines, as mentioned in 2 Samuel 5:13. This is not the same as 500 wives, however.
Many sources claim that Solomon's large number of wives and concubines ultimately led to his downfall, as their influence turned his heart away from God.
It's important to remember that these accounts reflect the societal norms of ancient times and should be understood within that historical context.
