Electric trailer brakes do not work without a controller. The controller is the brain of the braking system, sending signals to the electric brakes on the trailer.
Here's how it works:
- The Brake Actuator: This is the electric motor inside the brake assembly.
- The Controller: This is the electronic device that receives signals from the tow vehicle's brake pedal.
- The Wiring: This connects the controller to the brake actuators on the trailer.
When you press the brake pedal in the tow vehicle, the controller sends a signal to the brake actuators on the trailer. The actuators then apply pressure to the brake shoes, slowing down the trailer.
Without a controller, the brake actuators would not receive any signal to activate, and the trailer would not brake.
