The period of time before sunset is called twilight.
Twilight is the period after sunset when the sun is below the horizon, but some sunlight is still visible in the sky. There are three main stages of twilight:
1. Civil Twilight:
- This is the period when the sun is between 0° and 6° below the horizon.
- During this time, there is still enough light to see clearly.
- Many activities, such as outdoor sports and evening walks, can still be enjoyed.
2. Nautical Twilight:
- The sun is between 6° and 12° below the horizon.
- There is less light available than during civil twilight, but the horizon is still visible.
- This is the time when stars begin to appear in the sky.
3. Astronomical Twilight:
- This is the period when the sun is between 12° and 18° below the horizon.
- The sky is completely dark, and even the brightest stars are visible.
- Astronomical twilight marks the end of the day and the beginning of night.
The duration of twilight varies depending on the time of year and the location on Earth. In the summer, twilight can last for several hours, while in the winter it may be only a few minutes long.
