Which animal has the best eyesight?

Published in Animal Vision 1 min read

The Peregrine Falcon is generally considered to have the best eyesight in the animal kingdom. Its incredible visual acuity allows it to spot prey from miles away, making it a formidable hunter.

Here's why:

  • Exceptional Visual Acuity: Peregrine Falcons possess a visual acuity six to eight times greater than that of humans. This means they can see objects at much greater distances with incredible clarity.
  • High Concentration of Photoreceptor Cells: Their eyes have a very high concentration of photoreceptor cells, which allows them to capture more light and detail.
  • Specialized Eye Structure: The structure of their eyes, including the shape of the lens and the positioning of the retina, further enhances their ability to focus on distant objects.

While the Peregrine Falcon takes the crown, other animals boast exceptional vision in different ways. For example, mantis shrimp have exceptional color vision and can see ultraviolet light.
