Which fish never close their eyes?

Published in Animal Behavior 1 min read

Most fish don't have eyelids and therefore sleep with their eyes open.

While they may not close their eyes in the same way we do, fish do enter a resting state where their activity levels decrease and their metabolism slows down. This state is often referred to as sleep, even though their eyes remain open.

There are a few exceptions, such as some species of sharks that do have eyelids and can close their eyes.
