How long will dogs wait to eat you?

Published in Animal Behavior 1 min read

It's not a simple matter of waiting for a set amount of time. While dogs may explore their surroundings and the cause of their owner's death, they're not inherently driven to eat their deceased owner.

Several factors influence this behavior:

  • Hunger: If a dog is genuinely starving, it may resort to eating anything, including its deceased owner.
  • Instinct: Dogs can exhibit scavenging behavior, especially in wild or feral environments.
  • Individual Personality: Each dog has a unique personality. Some may be more curious about a deceased owner's body while others will avoid it.

It's important to remember that dogs are domesticated animals and their behavior is influenced by their upbringing, environment, and training. Cases of dogs eating their deceased owners are rare and are often related to extreme hunger or other unusual circumstances.
