How to Apply Size in Blender?

Published in 3D Modeling 3 mins read

You can apply size in Blender using the Scale tool. This tool allows you to uniformly or individually scale objects along the X, Y, and Z axes.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to apply size in Blender:

1. Select the Object

First, select the object you want to resize. You can do this by clicking on the object in the 3D Viewport or by using the Outliner.

2. Access the Scale Tool

There are several ways to access the Scale tool:

  • S key: Pressing the S key on your keyboard will activate the Scale tool.
  • Transform Toolbar: The Transform Toolbar (found at the bottom of the 3D Viewport) contains the Scale icon.
  • Properties Panel: In the Properties Panel (N key), go to the Object Data Properties tab and find the Scale section.

3. Scale the Object

Once you've activated the Scale tool, you can:

  • Scale uniformly: Move your mouse to resize the object along all axes.
  • Scale individually: Press X, Y, or Z to scale the object along a specific axis.
  • Enter numerical values: Enter specific values in the Transform panel (found at the bottom of the 3D Viewport) to achieve precise scaling.

4. Apply the Scale

To make the scaling permanent, apply the transformation using the Apply button in the Transform panel or by pressing Ctrl + A and selecting Scale.

Example:

Let's say you want to scale a cube by 2 along the X-axis:

  1. Select the cube.
  2. Press S to activate the Scale tool.
  3. Press X to restrict scaling to the X-axis.
  4. Move your mouse to scale the cube along the X-axis.
  5. Press Enter to confirm the scaling.
  6. Press Ctrl + A and select Scale to apply the scaling.

Practical Insight:

  • To scale an object proportionally, hold down the Shift key while using the Scale tool.
  • To scale an object from a specific point, use the Pivot Point settings in the Transform Toolbar.

Solutions:

  • If your object is not scaling correctly, ensure that you have not locked any axes in the Transform Toolbar.
  • If you want to scale an object by a specific percentage, enter the percentage value in the Scale section of the Properties Panel.
